Polar Bears

Polar Bears are the largest carnivores in the world and are classified as ‘marine mammals. They can swim for days at a time and are called 'Polar' because they only live in the Arctic at the North Pole. With their habitat at risk from global warming (melting ice) and invasion by oil companies food is also scarce and only 2 in every 100 hunts for food are successful. There are now just 26,000 Polar Bears left. With their blue tongues, black skin and white fur, these magnificent bears grow up to 800 kgs, the weight of 10 men!  Magnificence it seems is no guarantee of survival.

The Iberian Lynx

The Iberian Lynx is so called because it lives on the Iberian Peninsula, and is also known as the Spanish Lynx. It's the most endangered feline in the world today with a population of just 400 left on the planet. It was less than 100 at the beginning of he century, so things are looking up! They have a tawny gold coat and a beard which makes them look very cute indeed! Iberian Lynx's grow to about three feet or a metre in height and live on rabbits. They live amongst the trees!

Tigers

There are perhaps 5,000 Tigers of all species left on our planet. They are huge animals measuring up to 10 feet in length and weighing over half a ton. Two or three times bigger than most What a male Tiger calls home, is a massive territory which can by up 200 square miles - its no wonder that deforestation is encroaching on their survival as humans deprive them of somewhere to live and eat.
