The Blue Throated Macaw necklace is handmade with powder blue and gold coated Japanese glass beads. Think of it as a blue throated necklace, with the little gold beads symbolising the diminishing numbers of these rare birds in the wild - there are only 350 - 400 left!
Blue Throated Macaws live only in Bolivia where they go by the name of 'barba azul' which means 'blue beard ' in Spanish. We have given our necklace a throat of sorts emulating the Macaw's yellow crest with gold beads and finished it off with a pearl.
Macaws are highly intelligent and stay with the same mate for life living up to 60 years of age.
Macaws have been hard hit by humans who, for a long time, have been hunting them for their feathers for headdresses and the pet trade, at the same time as destroying their habitat through deforestation. Like most birds trees are where they live which is one reason we plant trees - to provide animals and marine life with a habitat in which to live.
Every Macaw plants 10 trees and comes with a planting certificate and gift card in a fabric bag - is a wonderful gift that gives back to the planet as well as being personalised and quite unique.
If you really want to splash out there will be a Blue Throated Macaw anklet coming soon.
The Blue Throated Macaw is made by hand and made to order. The combinations of powder blue and gold coated Japanese glass beads are unique to each band.
The Blue Throated Macaw comes in a single size, a necklace - 41 cms (16 inches)
Each of The Blue Throated Macaw is connected at the back with two links of 14K gold filled paper chain chain and a lobster clasp which is also 14K gold filled.
