Pink Dolphins
Pink Dolphins live in the Amazon & Orinoco Rivers in South America and the Pearl River in China. There’s around 2,000 or so living in China (which are critically endangered) and tens of thousands living in the Amazon. With over 1,000 tributaries, some over 1,000 kms long, it's not possible to count all the Pink Dolphins, or Botos, as they are known in Portuguese. People remain the principal threat to Pink Dolphins, hunting them for food, polluting their rivers and encroaching on their habitat with 25% of the Amazon’s forests now cut down. Mums live up to 30 years of age and have one calf every few years, so the chances of having more calves than those lost every year is poor with a diminishing population that is now officially endangered based on the last surveys in 2018.

Blue Whale
Blue Whales are the loudest animals on Earth, talking at 180 decibels; a jet engine can only manage 140 decibels. With hearts the size of a car they grow up to 30 meters (100 feet) long weighing over 180 tonnes – that’s 30 elephants. They live for 90 years. Their biggest enemy is humanity, hunting them for food, trapping them in discarded fishing nets, hitting them with ships. We’ve lost 97% of Blue Whales in the last century. Today, they’re endangered, with a population on the rise, thanks to global efforts. It's not too late! Farmers plough their fields, and Blue Whales plough the oceans, stirring up nutrients at the bottom of the oceans, bringing them to the surface, so our oceans can thrive and we can survive. They are the ploughs, the famers, of the Oceans.

Beluga Whales
The Beluga Whales live in the icy Arctic Sea around Alaska and Northern Canada. They are named after the Russian word “bielo”, meaning “white” as, at 8 years of age their skin changes colour from grey to white. They are also known as the “canaries of the sea” thanks to their chorus of squeals, chirps, and whistles and talk by changing the shape of their heads, their bulbous forehead is called a melon! Living 35 - 50 years, populations are reducing, with the principle threats being hunted by people and Polar Bears, oil spillages and pollution, and of course, the loss of the Arctic ice itself which is melting at a rate of over 1% a year. Colonies like the pod in the Cook Inlet living closer to people, are endangered. These clever, chatty Whales are having to adapt to survive. One to watch!

Beluga Whales
Beluga whales are also known as the 'canary of the seas' because of the many, strange and wonderful noises they make communicating with each other. Their 'melon' heads also change shape as they communicate. Like Polar Bears they a dependent on the ice flows which they call home and from which they take shelter from Orcas and hunt themselves. With receding ice shelves in the Arctic and Antarctic Belgua populations are now threatened.
