Heart Reef Turquoise Ring

Population in the World

Heart Reef is world’s only naturally formed coral reef in the shape of a heart. It measures just 17 meters across sitting within Australia's Great Barrier Reef which is 2,600 kms long. Heart Reef, like all reefs, is a living animal, made up of trillions of tiny polyps living within the calcium corals, which together look like flowers often called 'the rainforests of the seas'. When sea temperatures rise 1 degree or
more above average, these animal polyps are sent into shock and leave their coral skeleton home turning the reef white. The coral skeleton's food is provided by these resident polyps and when they leave, the coral starves, bleaches and soon dies! Climate Change is
heating the seas, causing this bleaching effect with lifeforms dying as they are still unable to adapt to sudden changes in temperature.
