Population

Red Panda’s have many names including Firefox, Red Bear-cat and Red Cat-bear. They are not related to Giant Pandas but like Giant Pandas they eat Bamboo. Red Pandas can eat up to 20,000 Bamboo leaves in a day. They must eat their leaves quickly, as they also sleep 17 hours a day! Red Pandas are slightly bigger than a cat and have tails as long as their bodies to help them balance on branches as they live in treetops. They also sleep in their tails at night and use them to stay warm. They live mostly in and around the Himalayan mountains, in Tibet, Nepal and China where it gets very cold. There could be as few as 2,500 Red Pandas left today. They are endangered, with the primary threat to their survival being loss of habitat. In simple terms, cutting down the trees they live in, their homes!
