Olive Ridley Sea Turtles
The smallest of the seven sea turtle species, weighing around 45 kg (100 pounds) and measuring just 60 cm (2 feet) long. Despite being the most abundant sea turtle, with an estimated 80,000 individuals, their numbers have reduced by 30–50% in recent years. Found in tropical oceans, including the Great Barrier Reef. Olive Ridleys get their name from the olive green color of their heart-shaped shell. Famous for arribadas, where thousands nest on the same beach over a few days. They are also among the few turtle species that can nest both solitarily and in groups. Hatchlings instinctively head to the sea using moonlight, and adults can dive over 150 meters deep to feed on jellyfish, algae, crabs, and shrimp.

Olive Ridley Sea Turtles
It’s estimated there are around 800,000 Olive Ridley Sea Turtles which sounds a lot, but they are still endangered on the Pacific Coast of Mexico and vulnerable elsewhere. There used to be over 10 million! That gives you an idea of the dangers they face, ghost or discarded fishing nets, plastic bags which they think are food, climate change disrupting their breeding patterns with warmer beaches producing more females and, of course, people. Olive Ridley’s are the smallest of the Sea Turtles and their shells are Olive colored fused bone. Sea Turtles wear their bones on the outside! They have beaks, not teeth, made of Keratin, same as our nails, and Rhino horns. Sea Turtles have been around for over 100 million years and we’ve lost over 90% of them in the last 50.
Loggerhead Sea Turtle Population
Loggerhead Sea Turtles are so called because of their large or log heads, which support bone crushing jaws to feed on hard shell creatures like sea urchins. Loggerheads live across the world in the Mediterranean Pacific, and warmer oceans and seas. They nest on beaches and the warmer the sand the more females are born, upsetting the balance of the species. They are also threatened by fishing nets, plastic bags and damage to their nesting beaches, the population is decreasing. Every two to three years females return to the beaches where they were born to nest, which means taking a dangerous journey of over 12,000 miles. That’s a long journey with many dangers today, so it’s no wonder their population is in decline. There could be as few as 36,000 nesting female Loggerheads remaining in 2015.
The Iberian Lynx
The Iberian Lynx is so called because it's made up of links or 'Lynx' and, like the gorgeous feline - the Iberian Lynx - it symbolises, is shades of gold. The Iberian Lynx lives on the Iberian Peninsula in Spain and is also known as the Spanish Lynx. It's the most endangered feline in the world today with a population of just 400 left on the planet. It was less than 100 at the beginning of the century, so things are looking up! They have a tawny gold coat and a beard which makes them look very cute indeed! Iberian Lynx's grow to about three feet or a metre and live amongst the trees!

Green Sea Turtles are classified as endangered, they are in danger of becoming extinct.
Get this, Green Sea Turtles were swimming around when the dinosaurs ruled over 100 million years ago, they've survived 100 million years and the extinction event that killed the dinosaurs!
Green Sea Turtles are born 2 inches long, grow up to 5 feet, and weigh over 300 pounds on a vegetarian diet of seaweed and algae, which is why they are green!
A group of sea turtles is called a 'clutch' and maybe that should change to crutch, as that's what their species needs.
Green Sea Turtles are athletes, they can hold their breath for up to 5 hours, swim at speeds of up to 35 kph and swim distances of over 2,500 kms just to find a meal.

Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles
Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles are named after Mr Kemp, a Florida fisherman, who discovered them.
They grow just 2 feet long and weighing less than 100 pounds and, being the smallest of the 7 species of sea turtles, they are vulnerable to just about everything:
That said their story is one of success!
Numbers of Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles dropped to around 200 females in the 1980s and since then have recovered to possibly as many as 8,500 today, although figures vary widely!
Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles are critically endangered, but they show what can be achieved.

Florida's Coral Reef is 350 miles long, over 500 kilometres, stretching from mid-way up the Florida coast, south to St Lucia. The reef is fighting for its life threatened by land based pollution, running off into the shallow seas and global warming, which has caused sea temperatures to rise to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in waters five feet deep. Is it any wonder that just 10% of this spectacular force of Nature remain unbleached.

Leatherback Sea Turtles
The Leatherback Sea Turtle is the closest living relative to the dinosaur and the third heaviest reptile in the world (after two species of crocodile). They grow up to 7 feet long and can weigh 2,000 pounds, that's almost a tonne and they eat jelly fish! The population has declined by 40% since 1980 and there are just 25,000 nesting females left today after being on the planet for over 100 million years outliving every other species. Plastic bags, which they mistake for jellyfish, looks to be their nemesis. Our tempered glass tortoiseshell bracelet seeks to capture some of their magnificence in the colours especially as it captures the light. Leatherbacks, like other sea turtles, are greatly dependent on the Great Barrier Reef.
Sea Turtles
Sea Turtles can't retract their heads and legs into their bodies, so their shells aren't really homes as such, more like a shield. And it is this armour that's helped them to become one of the oldest living species on the planet today. Turtles were trawling the world's oceans over 100 million years ago when T-Rex was hunting dinosaurs on land. Sadly their shield is no match for the threats humanity has introduced into the oceans including plastic bags which they eat mistaking them for jellyfish (their favourite food); discarded fishing nets, which they get caught up in and drown and, of course, they are hunted for meat. But it's Global Warming that will likely determine their destiny. In the oceans, warmer waters are bleaching the reefs destroying the turtles' natural habitats, and on land, the hotter sands in which turtles lay their eggs are producing more female than male turtles. The heat of the sand in which the eggs gestate determines the sex of the hatchlings and, the warmer it gets, the fewer males born and therefore fewer eggs in future. People, the seas and the lands all seem totally aligned against these gorgeous little creatures who've been around forever.

Black Jaguars
The word “jaguar” comes from the Tupi-Guarani word yaguar, meaning “he who kills with one leap.” Black Jaguars, Black Panthers, and Black Leopards are all the same big cat, also called the “Ghosts of the Forest,” because they hunt at night, padding around the Amazon rainforest unseen. There are over 100,000 Jaguars remaining, but sadly just 600 Black Jaguars, a genetic trait that gives them their sleek black coat. Jaguars only live for 12 years in the wild and a litter typically has two cubs. So Nature makes survival tough. Jaguars biggest enemies are cattle Ranching and Soybean farming, the principle causes of deforestation in the Amazon, which has lost over 25% of its trees. Even with the strongest bite of any of the big cats, there’s little they can do to protect their home.

Blue Whale
Blue Whales are the loudest animals on Earth, talking at 180 decibels; a jet engine can only manage 140 decibels. With hearts the size of a car they grow up to 30 meters (100 feet) long weighing over 180 tonnes – that’s 30 elephants. They live for 90 years. Their biggest enemy is humanity, hunting them for food, trapping them in discarded fishing nets, hitting them with ships. We’ve lost 97% of Blue Whales in the last century. Today, they’re endangered, with a population on the rise, thanks to global efforts. It's not too late! Farmers plough their fields, and Blue Whales plough the oceans, stirring up nutrients at the bottom of the oceans, bringing them to the surface, so our oceans can thrive and we can survive. They are the ploughs, the famers, of the Oceans.

Great White Shark
As predators, Great White Sharks are second to Killer Whales, who hunt the sharks. At 20 feet or more and weighing over 2 tonnes, White Sharks are formidable, but size is no guarantee of survival in nature. White Sharks live almost 80 years, litters average 5 pups, but only about 1 in 1,000 baby White Sharks (pups) make it to adulthood, thanks to ocean predators including humans, who hunt them for food, fins especially, and as trophies. A female White Shark might have 100 - 200 pups over her lifetime, and statistically none might survive to adulthood! So it takes 5 mums to birth one serving pup. With these statistics and threats, population recovery is challenging. There are just 8,000 White Sharks surviving today (our own estimates) with over 6,000, found in Australia.
