Black Jaguars, Black Panthers and Black Leopards are all the same animal and are called the “Ghost of the Forest” because of their colour and stealth. Not only are they incredibly beautiful, Black Jaguars are supreme triathletes and can swim, run and climb trees with equal grace and ease. And, if that wasn’t enough, the Jaguar has the most powerful jaws of all the big cats including Tigers. With so much going for them, is it any surprise that by one means or other (deforestation being prime among them) humans have now reduced the global population of Black Jaguars to less than 600!

Heart Reef 

This unique ring is inspired by Heart Reef, a naturally formed Coral Reef creating an island in the shape of a heart found in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The only heart shaped reef in the world, it measures just 17 metres across. Heart Reef is a living animal made up of trillions of tiny polyps living within the calcium corals, which look like flowers, or 'the rain forests of the seas' as they are often called. When sea temperatures rise 1 degree or more above average, the animal polyps are shocked and forced to leave their coral skeleton home. 90% of the coral skeleton's food is provided by it's resident polyps and if the polyps are away too long the reef starts to bleach and then die! Climate Change is heating the seas, it's changing weather patterns and therefore ocean currents, upsetting order within the oceans, and too often killing lifeforms which can't adapt fast enough. Taking over 200 million years to form, this iconic Australian reef is a symbol of enduring love.

Green Sea Turtles 

Green Sea Turtles are just 2 inches long when they are born and grow up to 5 feet long weighing over 300 lbs as adults. That's 3x the weight of a human being! They are the second largest Sea Turtle and eat sea grass and algae, which is why they love nesting in Shark Bay and are coloured green! Green Sea Turtles can hold their breath for up to 5 hours and swim at speeds of up to 35 kph. They saw dinosaurs become extinct and today, 150 million years later, with around 87,500 left, they are at risk of becoming extinct. The heat of the sand in which they lay their eggs determines the sex of turtles, with warmer temperatures producing females, and climate change is creating a shortage of male turtles threatening all species of Sea Turtles. A group of Sea Turtles is called a 'clutch' and there are fewer and fewer clutches to be found in the world's oceans as their temperatures rise. Your trees absorb 220 kgs of CO2 every year to help cool our planet.

Leatherback Sea Turtle

The Leatherback Sea Turtle is the closest living relative to the dinosaur and the third heaviest reptile in the world (after two species of crocodile). They grow up to 7 feet long and can weigh 2,000 pounds, that's almost a tonne and they eat jelly fish! The population has declined by 40% since 1980 and there are just 25,000 nesting females left today after being on the planet for over 100 million years outliving every other species. Plastic bags, which they mistake for jellyfish, looks to be their nemesis. Our tempered glass tortoiseshell bracelet seeks to capture some of their magnificence in the colours especially as it captures the light. Leatherbacks, like other sea turtles, are greatly dependent on the Great Barrier Reef.

Sea Turtles

Sea turtles can't retract their heads and legs into their bodies, so their shells aren't really homes as such, more like a shield. And its this armour that's helped them to become one of the oldest living species on the planet today - turtles were trawling the world's oceans over 100 million years ago when T-Rex was hunting dinosaurs on land. Sadly their shield is no match for the threats humanity as introduced into the oceans including plastic bags which they eat mistaking them for jelly fish (their favourite food); discarded fishing nets, which they get caught up in and drown and, of course, they are hunted for meat. But it's Global Warming that will likely determine their destiny. In the oceans, warmer waters are bleaching the reefs destroying the turtles' natural habitats, and on land, the hotter sands in which turtles lay their eggs are producing more male than female turtles. The heat of the sand in which the eggs gestate determines the sex of the hatchlings and, the warmer it gets, the fewer females and the fewer eggs in future. People, the seas and the lands all seem totally aligned against these gorgeous little creatures who've been around forever.

Sharks and Shark Bay

Located 1,000 kilometres north of Perth on the western most tip of Australia, Shark Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to 29 species of sharks including Tiger Sharks and Hammerheads, making it one of the most shark infested waters in the world. It is also a nesting home to Loggerhead and Green Sea Turtles, as well as 150 species of reptiles, 230 species of birds and 320 species of fish. Migrating whales stop by and whale sharks come to celebrate the full moons in April and May. Its waters are twice as salty as the surrounding seas and with almost 5,000 square kilometres of sea grass, and the largest single stretch of sea grass on the planet measuring over 1,000 square kilometres. Shark Bay has a higher level of evaporation than annual rainfall, creating a marine paradise dependent on its unusual climatic conditions. Conditions which are threatened by Climate Change, which your trees seek to combat by absorbing 220 Kgs of CO2 from the air every year.

Snow Leopards

The 4,000 Snow Leopards now left on our planet are scattered across 12 different countries! They live alone, which is why there isn’t a name for a group of Snow Leopards, and individual territories can measure up to 1,000 square kilometres! Snow Leopards are most closely related to Tigers, but they can't roar and instead they chuff, growl, hiss, and mew. Snow Leopards grow up to 4 feet long, with 3 foot long tails, and weigh up to 100 pounds, a third of the size of a Green Sea Turtle! For their size, Snow Leopards are incredibly powerful and can leap distances of up to 50 feet and 20 feet up into the air. Built to live in the harshest of mountainous environments, global warming is changing their habitat reducing the numbers of animals, their prey, on which Snow Leopards depend for food. Blue Whale

Blue whales are the loudest and largest of all animals on earth and speak to each other at 180 decibels of noise - a jet engine can only manage 140 decibels! With hearts the size of a Volkswagen Beatle car, Blue Whales weigh up to 150 tons (that's 30 elephants) and eat 4 tons of Krill, shrimp-like creatures, every day. They churn up the seas bringing essential nutrients like Krill, from down deep to the surface to feed and maintain all marine life. All farmers need a plough to grow their crops and the oceans are no different which is why we have Blue Whales, the agricultural ploughs of the oceans. Blue Whales dive to enormous depths and surface again, bringing with them all the wonderful nutrients that lie on the ocean's floors. We will lose at least 30% of the world's Krill this century due to climate change, and we've lost 90% of Blue Whales. Without Blue Whales, the world's oceans and seas would likely stagnate and with an lower estimate of 5,000 we may be in trouble. Once again we see the global food chain in peril. Our blue and gold banded bracelet celebrates their undoubted status as animal royalty.

Florida's Coral Reef is 350 miles long, over 500 kilometres, stretching from mid-way up the Florida coast, south to St Lucia. The reef is fighting for its life threatened by land based pollution, running off into the shallow seas and global warming, which has caused sea temperatures to rise to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in waters five feet deep. Is it any wonder that just 10% of this spectacular force of Nature remain unbleached.
