Bald Eagle Population - A Conservation Success Story

Bald Eagles are a conservation success story showing what can be done. A symbol of the United States since 1782, Bald Eagles were tittering on the brink of extinction in the early 1960s with just 412 pairs of Bald Eagles remaining. Their plight led to the passing of the Endangered Species Preservation Act in 1967, which today helps all threatened animals. The Bald Eagle was removed from the endangered species listing in 2007 and can now be found all over the United States. They are named after the Oldie English words ‘balde’ and ‘piebald’ which mean white, rather than hairless! Today they are the largest raptors in the world, with eyesight 8x better than humans, and a grip 10x tighter than humans. They have held on!
