Olive Ridley Sea Turtles
The smallest of the seven sea turtle species, weighing around 45 kg (100 pounds) and measuring just 60 cm (2 feet) long. Despite being the most abundant sea turtle, with an estimated 80,000 individuals, their numbers have reduced by 30–50% in recent years. Found in tropical oceans, including the Great Barrier Reef. Olive Ridleys get their name from the olive green color of their heart-shaped shell. Famous for arribadas, where thousands nest on the same beach over a few days. They are also among the few turtle species that can nest both solitarily and in groups. Hatchlings instinctively head to the sea using moonlight, and adults can dive over 150 meters deep to feed on jellyfish, algae, crabs, and shrimp.
