Population
Vaquita dolphins are the most critically endangered of all marine animals with just 80 alive in 2018, perhaps as few as 10 today. They are the rarest animal in the world and live in the Northern end of the Gulf of Mexico, nowhere else. Their survival is threatened by discarded fishing nets, called Gillnets, which trap and drown these amazing mammals. Use of these nets has been banned, but illegal fishing continues. Vaquitas Dolphins are 5 feet long and weigh 120 Kgs. They are known as the Giant Pandas of the Sea with black rings around their eyes and their mouths. They have Panda eyes and look like Giant Pandas. Vaquita’s are super cute defenseless dolphins who play a really important role in the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem! We must hold on to them!

Population
There are 5 species of Rhino with populations - The Sumatran (30), The Javan (18), The Greater One-horned Rhino in India (2,100), The African Black (3,142) and The White Rhino which has 2 populations in Africa - The Northern Population (2) and the Southern population (10,078). Weighing over 3 tonnes, White Rhinos are the 2nd largest land animal after elephants and are named after the Africaan’s word ‘wyd’, which means wide, because of their square shaped lips. Their principal threat is being hunted for their horns which are prized for medicinal purposes. Their horns grow up to 7 cms (3 inches) a year and are made of Keratin, like our hair and nails. Their horns, their principal source of protection in Nature, has become their Achilles Heel where humans are concerned.

Population
The Miami Blue Butterfly is the size of a thumb nail and, being so small makes it especially vulnerable to everything, the weather, hurricanes are a real problem, people and predators. Their wings are a metallic blue color and females are bigger than the males. There are reportedly less than 100 Miami Blues left, thanks in great part to the loss of their habitat and the plants on which their survival depends. We are destroying their home. Miami Blues were thought to be extinct at the end of the 20th century but further populations popped up. Sadly by 2012, just one population remained with 34 butterflies counted as left. The University of Florida is now working to recover this last small group of individuals and lay plans hopefully for a recovery of the species itself.

The Bengal Tiger
The Bengal Tiger grows up to 3 meters (10 feet) in length and weighs up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds) or a third of a tonne. A bengal Tiger can eat up to a 10th of its body weight, 30 kilograms of meat, in a single meal - that would be like a man sitting down to eat a 20 pound hamburger (half a pound is considered a large meal with some chips!).
To give you an idea of their power, this enormous animal can jump over 10 meters (33 feet), longer than a London double-decker bus! Not surprisingly these hunters pose a considerable threat to those who trespass on their territory including humans.
Today there are less than 4,000 of these wonderful creatures left in the wild, living primarily in the Indian sub-continent where there are diminishing forests (caused by deforestation to make way for agriculture) and large and growing numbers of people. Hunting and conflict with humans in a shrinking environment where wildlife, the Tigers source of food, too is diminishing.
