Hawksbill Sea Turtle
Nature dealt Hawksbill Sea Turtles a blow when she blessed them with their “tortoise shell,” as they are hunted for their meat as well as their beautiful shells. With just 8,000 nesting mums left, each laying 3,000 eggs over their lifetime and a survival rate of 1 hatchling per 1,000, that means each mum might have 3 hatchlings that survive over the next 50 years, the lifetime of a Hawksbill. That’s 24,000 more Hawksbills over the next 50 years, which is not enough to see the species survive after millions of years. Global warming is warming beaches leading to more females than males and is devastating their homes, coral reefs. Hawksbills return to the same beach to nest, making it easier to help them, preparing the beach, shading the sand to keep it cool and protecting hatchlings.
