Population

Vaquita dolphins are the most critically endangered of all marine animals with just 80 alive in 2018, perhaps as few as 6-10 today. They are the rarest animal in the world and live in the Northern end of the Gulf of Mexico, nowhere else. Their survival is threatened by discarded fishing nets, called Gillnets, which trap and drown these amazing mammals. Use of these nets has been banned, but illegal fishing continues. Vaquitas Dolphins are 5 feet long and weigh 120 Kgs. They are known as the Giant Pandas of the Sea with black rings around their eyes and their mouths. They have Panda eyes and look like Giant Pandas. Vaquita’s are super cute defenseless dolphins who play a really important role in the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem! We must hold on to them!
