African Elephant

African elephants live up to 60-70 years old. At 9 feet tall and weighing up to 7 tonnes (the weight of 35 Gorillas) Elephants are the world's largest land animals. Yet they can still pick up a single grain of rice with their trunks, making them the gentlest animals on earth. Elephants are one of the few animals with self awareness, able to recognize themselves in a mirror which is being shattered by poachers! Poachers kill 20,000 to 35,000 elephants a year, that’s 200,000 to 350,000 elephants every decade, and there’s just 415,000 African elephants of all species remaining. Add to this loss the impact of deforestation depriving them of their food source and droughts caused by Climate Change depriving them of their water source, and elephants are in danger of leaving us altogether this century.
