Les Petites Pearls

The freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) is an endangered species of freshwater mussel. Mussels are, of course, water filters with the elements of sediment they extract from the water becoming Pearls over time. Needless to say Mussels have been over hunted in the past (and present) and their diminished numbers now threatened further by pollution; they are no match for the contaminants humanity is throwing, pumping and dumping in our freshwater sources. Le Petit Park necklace is not made of its endangered relatives, but farmed freshwater pearls.
